Polaris partners with NCG and Comtel for LTE NetEPC carrier gateways solution

Dec 11, 2012 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) -- Polaris Networks, a provider of test tools, simulation tools and software engineering services, has partnered with Advantech's Networks and Communications Group, or NCG, and Comtel Electronics to create a new high-end solution for their LTE NetEPC carrier gateways.

Initially ported on Advantech's MIC-5332 dual processor ATCA Blade, the carrier grade solution complements Polaris offerings based on AMC, MicroTCA and 1U server technology. With the ability to support up to 100K subscribers, the ATCA-based NetEPC targets smaller LTE networks such as private and public safety networks, the company said.

Advantech's MIC-5332 is a dual processor ATCA blade based on the Intel Xeon E5-2600 Processor. It enables the processing performance available in an ATCA form factor with up to 16 cores and 32 threads of processing power, fast PCIExpress gen. 3 lanes running at up to 8Gbps and virtualization support. Two QPI interfaces between the CPUs improve memory and I/O access throughput and latencies when one processor needs to access resources hosted by the other socket.

The MIC-5332 provides a highly scalable platform for the NetEPC solution. Entry-level solutions can be deployed with low upfront capital investment in areas where initial subscriber coverage is small and can grow with the subscriber base by adding blades when necessary, the company added.

"We designed the MIC-5332 and MIC-5333 to be highly flexible blades for a wide range of networking applications and in particular, for those consolidating workloads. The Polaris NetEPC is a perfect example where control plane signaling and data plane packet processing can converge on to a single multi-core Intel architecture blade," said Paul Stevens, telecom sector marketing director, Advantech NCG. "The availability of our MIC-5332 pre-tested in Comtel's ATCA chassis allowed Polaris to quickly port NetEPC to an operator-preferred architecture in a carrier grade platform using off-the-shelf building blocks." "Polaris selected ATCA for the high-end NetEPC because of its high availability, service continuity and scalability capabilities." stated Aditya Saraf, vice president, sales and marketing at Polaris. "We chose to work with Advantech and Comtel because of their flexibility in ATCA platform design and recognition as suppliers of ATCA solutions to Tier-1 TEMS. We also have a longstanding relationship as a supplier of ATCA validation and testing software to Advantech." "The MIC-5332 combined with Comtel's ATCA Chassis meet the carrier grade requirements of the NetEPC solution," said Tom Inglese, director sales and marketing at Comtel. "The push-pull cooling, hot-swap, redundant Fan Trays and dedicated R cooling ensures that the NetEPC can work in any central office environment. With its 40Gbps capable full mesh backplane, single ShMC and AC or DC power options, Comtel's entry-level ATCA Systems are also a very cost effective solution." http://www.datamonitor.com Republication or redistribution, including by framing or similar means, is expressly prohibited without prior written consent.
