Plan to counter possible spread of bird flu

(Gulf News Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Dubai: An order to form a work team to counter possibilities of bird flu spread into the country was yesterday issued by Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Dubai Police Chief. Part of the plan is to set up a database about the disease, to organise national participation with the concerned parties for the control of the disease, to spread awareness and culture about the danger of the disease, to react with the affected cases, to exchange information with the parties concerned about the disease. The precautionary measures include preparation of a database which include various parts of the plan, confinement of protectorates, farms, poultry sale outlets, immigrant birds gatherings, water surfaces in co-operation with Dubai Municipality. Prohibition of aviculture and hunt which may be a cause in the spread of infection, and the supervision of suspected areas.



Pakistan National Day celebrations

Abu Dhabi: In celebrating the Pakistan National Day in the UAE, a flag-hoisting ceremony will be held at the Pakistan Embassy in Abu Dhabi on March 23 at 8am. Ahsan Ullah Khan, Pakistani Ambassador to the UAE, will hoist the national flag in the presence of Pakistani community members, their families and embassy officials. Another flag hoisting ceremony will also take place in Dubai at the same time at the Consulate General of Pakistan.



Conference on geology opens

Al Ain: The sixth international conference on the geology of the Middle East began on Monday in Al Ain. The conference, organised by the Geology Department of the college of science at the UAE University, was held under the patronage of Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education.
