Philadelphia Daily News Gary Thompson column: Gary Thompson: 'Star Trek' DVD features trial video game, gag reel

Nov 20, 2009 (Philadelphia Daily News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- WITH APOLOGIES to Sacha Baron Cohen and "Bruno," it's "Star Trek" week on DVD, with two versions of the early summer hit available.



The $30 single disc includes the theatrical release and some special features -- commentary from J.J. Abrams, a "production secrets" documentary, and a gag reel of blown takes.

The $37 two-disc special edition is larded with special features -- five behind-the-scenes documentaries, deleted scenes and a trial version of the "Star Trek" video game.



As for the $29 "Bruno," Cohen's spotty second feature, it features, for the first time, a behind-the-scenes look at how Cohen and director Larry Charles set up their little "punk'd" scenarios. A $39 Blu-ray version includes a "BD-Live" feature that allows users to connect to the Internet for additional online and interactive features. (For more about "Bruno," see story below.)
