Performance of Sandvine's Virtual Products Validated by EANTC

Sandvine's Traffic Steering Engine and PTS Virtual Series Make Service Function Chaining and Scaling of Virtual Network Functions a Reality

WATERLOO, ON, Jan. 23, 2017 /CNW/ - Sandvine, (TSX:SVC) a leading provider of intelligent broadband network solutions for fixed and mobile operators, today announced that EANTC has independently validated important functional and performance aspects of Sandvine's virtualized network policy control solutions.

Tests performed on Sandvine's Traffic Steering Engine and Policy Traffic Switch (PTS) Virtual Series demonstrate that communications service providers (CSPs) can use the products both to instantly scale virtual network functions (VNFs) as demand dictates, and to create service function chains (SFCs) of virtual functions, like traffic detection or network security, using the IETF standards that Sandvine is collaborating on the development of. In a Software-Defined Network (SDN) architecture the Traffic Steering Engine is integrated through open APIs to help materialize the vision of a fully dynamic network where services are deployed according to demand and network conditions.

As part of the validation, EANTC scrutinized multiple use cases of Sandvine's Service Function Chaining implementation, to verify both their functionality and scalability when faced with real-world network conditions. The multitude of tests performed by EANTC proved that:

• Sandvine's Traffic Steering Engine can elastically scale-out new service chains as demand dictates, while ensuring the traffic distribution mechanism between multiple service chains remained intact
• The Traffic Steering Engine and PTS Virtual Series have hitless failover and recovery when in a high-availability scenario, ensuring network operators can deploy Sandvine's virtualized products in situations requiring redundancy and network continuity
• Sandvine's PTS Virtual Series and Network Security product effectively detected and mitigated both a DNS amplification distributed dnial-of-service (DDoS) attack and a SYN-flood DDoS attack without impacting any safe and legitimate network traffic
