Paxar Corporation Joins Intermec RFID Rapid Start Licensing Program

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. --(Business Wire)-- Sept. 1, 2005 -- Paxar Corporation (NYSE: PXR), a global leader providing bar code, RFID and identification technologies for the retail supply chain and the supplier of Monarch(R) products and services, and Intermec Technologies Corporation, provider of innovative identification technologies, today announced an agreement to cross-license portions of their RFID intellectual property portfolios. Paxar has joined Intermec's Rapid Start Licensing Program, gaining full access to Intermec's insert, tag, and printer portfolios of Intermec patented RFID technology. In return, Intermec gains access to certain RFID technology developed by Paxar.

Paxar offers a comprehensive RFID solution, including the machinery to encode and print RFID labels, a complete line of RFID labels and tags, integration and on site service support to help customers successfully adopt this new technology. Each Monarch(R) RFID smart label undergoes three rounds of testing to ensure optimum performance in the field, and is backed by Paxar's Smart Label Performance Guarantee, strong evidence of this quality focus.

"Paxar's established position as a provider of quality RFID solutions is enhanced by our agreement to cross-license intellectual property with Intermec," said Rick Bauer, Paxar's Senior Director, RFID Technical Research. "Paxar's customers will receive the benefits of the best of both companies' innovations."

Intermec holds more than 145 RFID patents covering broad areas of UHF supply chain RFID practice and applications. Its patents cover all standards and classes for international practice of RFID, including Class 0, Class 0+, Class 1, UHF Generation 2, ISO and others. The company's 90-day Rapid Start Licensing Program, which was available for a limited time through August 31, is designed to open access to Intermec's current and future RFID technology innovations and to clearly indicate to the marketplace which manufacturers and vendors are licensed to use Intermec's patented RFID technologies.

"Our Rapid Start program was created because end-user customers realize the benefits of RFID in mission-critical applications such as in supply chains, and want access to the full power of these systems, available only by using Intermec's patented inventions," said Intermec President Tom Miller.
