PatientSafe Solutions' Emma® System Selected by Parkview Medical Center to Improve Enterprise-wide Clinical Communications

SAN DIEGO --(Business Wire)--

PatientSafe Solutions, a leader in smart point-of-care mobile solutions for healthcare, recently announced that Parkview Medical Center has selected the Emma® system to further improve clinical communication, care and efficiency across the organization. The system, which includes voice and HIPAA-compliant messaging capabilities, streamlines workflow and eliminates the need for caregivers to carry multiple devices.

Emma integrates with the PatientTouch® handhelds, which are smartphone-based devices, the hospital already uses. The system operates on Apple (News - Alert)® iOS, and it facilitates contextual care team communication and collaboration through voice-over-IP (VoIP) and patient-centric messaging. The Emma system consolidates alerts, notifications and text/image/audio communications, improving clinical workflow through real-time access to the care team, patient information and critical clinical data. Users no longer need an additional device for voice communications due to Emma's VoIP functionality, and they can now securely text message other caregivers, much like they would on their personal phone.

"The feedback we have received from the caregivers throughout the implementation process has been incredible," said Steve Shirley, CIO at Parkview Medical Center. "Our nurses have been very satisfied with the seamless transition to Emma, and love that they now only have to carry around one device for all clinical workflow and communication needs. They can receive lab orders, reference patient information and medications, and instantaneously communicate with the care team. PatientSafe Solutions is really helping us achieve ou top priority, which is keeping patients safe throughout the care process."

Parkview Medical Center and PatientSafe Solutions have been partners since 2007, working to help improve Parkview's positive patient identification (PPID) workflows, and the addition of Emma to improve clinical communications was the next natural step in keeping patient safety first. These efforts include medication administration, specimen collection, blood product administration, care interventions, care team communications, and integration with the lab and pharmacy departments. As part of the implementation process, the organization completed a full technical and clinical workflow assessment, which ensured that Emma would seamlessly fit into their clinical workflow and help with inefficient communication areas that needed improvement.

"We have worked with Parkview Medical Center for several years. They have played an integral role in collaborating on the advanced, clinically-rich functionality of PatientTouch so it's easy to use within their existing IT infrastructure," says Joe Condurso, president and chief executive officer of PatientSafe Solutions. "Parkview Medical Center recognizes the importance of clinical communications in improving patient safety, and in today's healthcare industry, this is critical as they leverage smart point-of-care mobile technology to meet their goals towards new reporting and payment models."
