Paraguay, Brazil sign agreement on public communication

ASUNCION, Oct 27, 2009 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Paraguay and Brazil on Tuesday signed a cooperation agreement to strengthen public press media, government sources said.

Paraguay's Minister of Information and Communication for Development Augusto dos Santos and Brazil's Social Communication Minister Franklin Martins signed the agreement, while Paraguay's President Fernando Lugo was present.

Martins said it was necessary to further boost public communications, and a mechanism should be created to allow the participation of different social sectors in the formation of public opinion.

Meanwhile, Dos Santos said the agreement would help build a new project of communication policy, considering the value of the public sphere was indispensable.

Both parts were committed to giving training on techniques to strengthen the institutional capacities of public media, including the exchange of journalists and other professionals in the media sector.

Both countries would also engage in specific strategic cooperation in the areas of news agencies, radio and TV.
