Panasonic LinkRay® Helps Retailers Deliver Custom Data to Mobile Consumers

NEWARK, N.J., Sept. 21, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Panasonic Corporation of North America today announced that its LinkRay® technology (formerly LightID) is now being integrated into content management systems, kiosks and light box installations, to provide a unique analytic engagement solution, and a new way to grow revenues. Permanent installations in Japan and pilot programs in the U.S. and around the globe show how the visible light communication technology enables retailers, cultural institutions, sports stadiums and transportation hubs to easily connect consumers to more in-depth information linked to digital signage, by using encoded light signals emitted from the screens.

"The digital landscape has quickly shifted to mobile, and retailers, sports and entertainment venues and local governments are seeking new ways to provide useful information to consumers when they want it as well as to gain insights into their level of engagement. With LinkRay, Panasonic is enabling business and public sector customers to transform and deliver the desired information digitally to connected citizens and consumers," said Richard Hsu, VP of Engineering t AVC Networks North America, a unit of Panasonic Corporation of North America in Newark, NJ.

Panasonic is rolling out LinkRay to high-profile installations across the globe including:

  • A pilot installation that is now underway at a major U.S. sports stadium.
  • An introduction to the U.S. retail market through a tech tie-up with global cloud-based shopper-engagement company ComQi, based in New York City.
  • LinkRay installations in ASICS' New Concept Store in Tokyo, as well as the Big Sight Conference Center and Tokyo's Futako-Tamagawa Station, among others.
  • A planned LinkRay pilot project at Russia's Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts.

About LinkRay (formerly Light ID) Technology
LinkRay allows targeted content to be activated by a consumer launching an app, and pointing their mobile phone camera at LCD digital signage–even from a distance. Because LinkRay features such a high-speed transmission rate, information will decode and move to a user phone almost instantaneously.

  • LinkRay's low interference properties allow marketers to provide different messages. In contrast, signals sent using Bluetooth or sonic waves have interference issues when multiple transmitters are in close proximity.
  • LinkRay can also be used for non-digital applications, like printed posters illuminated by light boxes.
