Panasonic eyeing fivefold rise in LED device sales in Europe
(Japan Economic Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) OSAKA, April 16 -- (Kyodo) _ Panasonic Corp. said Monday it targets 15 billion yen in sales of light-emitting diode bulbs and related parts in Europe in the 2015 business year, up about fivefold from its 2010 business year, as the company hopes to take advantage of increasing interest in the energy-efficient lighting equipment.
Panasonic, which currently offers 11 kinds of LED bulbs and parts in Europe, will increase the number to 42 in the current business year to next March 31. The parts are supplied to local makers of LED lightening equipment.
LED equipment is expected to account for 40 percent of all lighting devices in Europe in the 2015 business year, up from a predicted 13 percent in the current year, according to Panasonic.
The Osaka-based electronics maker plans to log more than 200 billion yen in global sales of LED lighting equipment in the 2015 business year, up six times from the current amount. The projected total includes 40 billion yen from overseas markets.
