Packet Design CTO to Address OpenDaylight Summit on SDN MANO

During the OpenDaylight Summit in Seattle this week, Packet Design (News - Alert) CTO Cengiz Alaettinoglu will discuss the need for a management and orchestration (MANO) layer for multi-service SDN. He will explore the critical elements for SDN MANO in multi-service networks, plus new protocols and OpenDaylight developments that enable end-to-end service overlays in the WAN.

Session Title: "OpenDaylight Enabled MANO Layer for Multi-Service SDN"

Topic: Today's networks carry many different services and applications with varying and often conflicting requirements. For example, customers with time-sensitive financial trading applications need short-delay paths that may need to be segregated from other customers. Residential customers using over-the-top (OTT) services such as Netflix and YouTube (News - Alert) will quickly change providers if their video quality requirements are not met. To accommodate different business demands, service providers must be able to provision SDN resources dynamically. This enables them to minimize over-provisioning of network resources and better contro capex outlays.

However, SDN presents management challenges such as loss of visibility into changes taking place in the network and the need to capture engineering know-how in SDN applications. If automation alters network behavior without human intervention, what determines if these programmatic changes should be made or not, and what their impact on other applications and services will be? Addressing these challenges requires a management layer in SDN architectures fed by the right analytics, consisting of network topology, traffic and performance telemetry, projections, and algorithms.

Date and Time: Wednesday, Sept. 28 at 2:00 p.m. PDT

Packet Design will present its SDN MANO Platform and an SDN Traffic Engineering (SDN-TE) application that is built on the platform and integrated with OpenDaylight in booth number B03. Cengiz will also demo the SDN-TE application on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at 3:40 p.m. PDT in the Demo Theater. Packet Design is a Bronze Sponsor of the event.

About Packet Design

Packet Design technology helps the leading network operators, enterprises, and government agencies across six continents deliver critical services across the cloud. The Explorer product suite uniquely combines routing, traffic, and performance analytics for real-time, path-aware operational monitoring and back-in-time forensics for troubleshooting transient problems that can cause major service disruptions. Interactive modeling helps engineers predict the impact of changes accurately, simulate new workloads for capacity planning, and test failure scenarios to build more resilient networks. With these analytics as a foundation, Packet Design is delivering SDN management and orchestration capabilities in complex, multi-service networks.
