P3 communications Poised to Change the Network Benchmark Game in the U.S.

MORRISTOWN, N.J., April 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- P3 communications Inc., an international consulting, testing and engineering services company, will conduct the nation's first independent public, end-to-end analysis and comparison of Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) performance in Washington, D.C. next week.

The drive tests, which also will include circuit switched voice and smartphone data, will provide a clear, objective and technically sound look at the network performance of the four major U.S. wireless carriers from the customer's perspective. P3 engineers will use popular Samsung smartphones and conduct measurements along and inside of the I-495 Capital Beltway over a period of five days.

"It's exciting to be the first to test VoLTE and demonstrate how it performs compared to legacy voice services," said Dirk Bernhardt, CEO of P3 communications, Inc. "Mobile devices have become our constant companions, and the more we rely on them to stay informed and connected, the more important it is that wireless networks perform as promised.

"Carriers are investing billions of dollars in next generation technologies to keep pace with exponential demand for wireless services but there is an engineering gap in the current benchmark ecosystem in the U.S.," he added. "The current approach is focusedon reporting problems, rather than solving them. Carriers need reliable data, based on sound engineering and measurement principles, and a partner who helps them implement changes to their networks to improve the customer experience. Our end-to-end, holistic approach is unique and helps close this gap. We not only test and report; we apply our advanced data analytics to find root causes and help carriers optimize their networks to deliver the best customer experience."

P3 will release a detailed report on the Washington, D.C. public benchmark in June, representing each carrier's performance as a "P3-Score," which is used to map the technical performance metrics to a common scale and to aggregate the achievements in the different test categories to one final count. This reliable and objective scale will allow P3 to compare the performance of U.S. wireless networks to those serving customers in capital cities around the world.

"Network optimization is the key to winning the U.S. wireless race," Bernhardt said. "Today's networks are so complex and the challenges so great, that internal network teams are looking for outside expertise. This will be our first opportunity to demonstrate the effectiveness of our objective, transparent and time-tested methodology. We plan to follow this test with a nationwide public benchmark in the first half of 2016."

P3 has been running similar annual public benchmarks in Germany since 2002 and in Austria and Switzerland since 2009, where it is the de facto industry standard for benchmarking wireless network quality and service performance. Drawing on hundreds of thousands of voice and data measurements, it has improved market transparency and provided mobile operators with a reliable way to measure and compare network quality. Last year, the company launched benchmarks in Australia and the United Kingdom and it continues to expand its benchmark footprint. In addition to the U.S., P3 will conduct public benchmarks in Spain and the Netherlands later this year.

In 2014 alone, P3 compiled more than 40,000 measurement hours in over 42 countries on five continents with drive and walk tests covering 620,000 miles. P3 works with clients around the world including wireless carriers, infrastructure vendors, device manufacturers, public safety organizations and regulatory authorities.

Today, the P3 benchmark provides an important incentive for operators on five continents to continue investing in improving their infrastructure, services and performance. It also gives them a perfect platform to show how revenue from customers is used to deliver and improve service and quality.

P3 communications Inc. has provided consulting, testing and engineering services for U.S. carriers since 2007, and private network performance benchmarking since 2010.
