Out of running for Rolls: Van Wert site cut from list to host Rolls-Royce

(Lima News, The (Ohio) (KRT) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Feb. 3--VAN WERT -- Van Wert's mega-site did not make the cut.

Van Wert County's economic development director said state officials told her Friday that the county's bid for a Rolls-Royce manufacturing site won't reach the company.

The site that was a finalist in Honda's quest for an assembly plant was not a finalist in the list of sites Ohio submitted to Rolls-Royce, Nancy Bowen said.

"We learned that we were not in the running and I don't have any details on that at all. We don't know the reasons, but we hope to know soon," Bowen said. "It is highly confidential and the state doesn't want to reveal which sites are in or out."

Rolls-Royce announced in December that it would be expanding in the United States with at least one facility. The company contacted Georgia, Indiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia for information on potential sites.

Rolls-Royce Plc serves the aerospace and energy markets.

According to state officials there were 15 proposals sent to the Ohio Department of Development for consideration.

Thursday was the deadline for the eight states to submit site proposals to Rolls-Royce which wants to build a new manufacturing facility to support its growth.

There is no information on how many site finalists from Ohio were selected and where they are located.

The Van Wert site submitted to the state received a Job Ready Sites grant of $3.5 million to improve 1,900 acres along U.S. 30.

"It is disappointing, but we really do have a great site. The state has told us that. We feel that something will come along. We're going to keep plugging at it," Bowen said.
