The Oregonian, Portland, Ore., TV Talk column

Feb 14, 2012 (The Oregonian - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- It's good news for comic sketch artists and pirates today. Comedy Central has ordered 10 more episodes of its new series, "Key & Peele," which premiered in January to 2.1 million total viewers, the biggest debut for a Comedy Central series since 2009.

The comedy sketch show is created by and stars Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele.

The season season of 10 episodes will premiere in fall 2012.

From the Comedy Central press release: Best known for their impressive ability to do improv, conjure up original characters and celebrity impressions, Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele star in "Key & Peele," a new series in which these fresh, relevant comedic actor-writers, used to being on the outside looking in, examine life in a provocative and irreverent way, through a combination of filmed sketches and live stage segments. Whether it's satirizing the President, spoofing Nazis, or ordering up some soul food, "Key & Peele" will showcase their chemistry, camaraderie and unique point of view, born from their shared background and experiences growing up biracial in a not quite post-racial world.

The news was also jolly for "Jake and the Never Land Pirates." The Disney channel has ordered a third season of the network's #1 series and cable TV's #1 series among boys aged 2-5. The series also features musical contributions from piratical Portlanders. From the press release: The series revolves around a crew of kid pirates -- leader Jake and pals Izzy and Cubby -- and follows their Never Land adventures as they work to outwit two infamous characters, the one and only Captain Hook and Mister Smee, from Disney's classic "Peter Pan." The stories emphasize teamwork and features original pirate rock music performed by Sharky and Bones of The Never Land Pirate Band.
