Oracle Applications Users Group Celebrates 25th Anniversary

The Oracle Applications Users Group (OAUG), an organization providing the world's largest user knowledgebase for Oracle (News - Alert) Applications users, celebrates 25 years of helping its members enhance their knowledge and productivity as well as the return on their organizations' investments in Oracle Applications.

From the initial formation meeting attended by a small group of Oracle customers in the spring of 1990, the OAUG has grown to be the most established group providing education and networking opportunities and advocating to Oracle on behalf of users of Oracle Applications.

While the OAUG was primarily formed to address the needs of financial users, organizers quickly saw the potential to serve a larger, diverse group of Oracle customers. Today, the OAUG is thousands of members strong with more than 100 OAUG geographic (Geo) or special interest (SIG) groups hosting meetings and/or conference calls throughout each year to explore particular areas of interest. In 1997, the OAUG Customer Support Council was formed to help OAUG members better understand and use Oracle Support services while working more closely and directly with Oracle. In 2005, the OAUG's Community Integration Initiative was launched to provide strategic and organizational assistance to user groups affiliated with companies acquired by Oracle.

In 2003, the OAUG eLearning program was added to the growing list of member benefits along with its already established OAUG Conference Paper Database to disseminate the most relevant user-driven information. In 2013, the OAUG was a key partner during the pilot of Oracle's updated enhancement request (ER) system, working through its IGs to gain improvements around the process. Most recently in 2014, the OAUG Young Professionals Forum was created to give those just beginning their careers with Oracle Applications a chance to engage with their peers, discuss challenges and learn from guest speakers.

Throughout the 1990s and early 2000s, the OAUG held annual educational conferences that continued to grow in sophistication and scope. In 2006, the OAUG co-hosted the first COLLABORATE conference in conjunction with the Independent Oracle Users Group (IOUG) and Quest International Users Group (Quest). Today COLLABORATE is widely recognized as the user-focused, user-developed Oracle education and networking event of the year. The OAUG acknowledged its 25 years of service to Oracle Applications users at COLLABORATE 15: Technology and Applications Forum for the Oracle Community held in Las Vegas in April.

"The OAUG has grown exponentially in the past 25 years, and continues to attract Oracle users from all over the world," said Melissa English, president of the OAUG. "We are thrilled with the success of the organization, and we know it could not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of its members. While we are aware that the OAUG will continue to evolve over the next 25 years, we are committed to maintaining its original purpose of providing a valued resource for Oracle users."
