Opal Telecom launches SIP Trunking proposition to the channel

Channel set to benefit as first major carrier launches SIP connectivity

Warrington, 7th March 2008: Opal Telecom, the business division of The Carphone Warehouse (News - Alert) Group, has today announced that it will be launching its SIP Trunking proposition at two major channel events in April.

Coming hot on the heels of the recent announcement of Opals strategic partnership with leading UK SIP developer, Voiceflex, the launch of the SIP Trunking proposition illustrates Opals dedication to providing next generation solutions to channel partners.

The Opal proposition will enable the channel to benefit from increased margins, greater customer lock-in and competitive advantage. Unlike many competitor SIP propositions currently available, Opal SIP Trunks can connect directly to most IP-PBX systems that have SIP interconnect, without the need for gateways or integrated access devices - interoperability has been fully tested and approved by many of the leading manufacturers.

The Opal SIP Trunking proposition delivers enormous flexibility to the channel, allowing organisations to make or receive voice calls over any broadband connection or Opals VxDSL service. Additionally, the channel can offer an any number anywhere proposition - with end-customers benefiting from being able to choose any area code no matter where they are located helping to promote a local presence. Further more, number portability allows them to retain their numbers when they move. The proposition also allows the channel to deliver significant cost savings to their end-customers as calls to other Opal SIP telephone numbers are free of charge.

Geoff Wilson, Business Development Director at Opal Telecom, said: The Opal SIP Trunking proposition will see us working closely with systems manufacturers giving them and system resellers a superb opportunity to up-sell to their base. End-users will be able to unlock all the value features of their IP-PBX (News - Alert) and reap the benefits and flexibility of Unified Communications.

Genuine competitive edge is reinforced through the further enhancement of Opals SIP Trunking proposition with the ability to add on applications such as IVR, call queuing, recording, screening and full PSTN inter-working.

Opal SIP trunks can be used in parallel with ISDN or analogue trunks, providing Channel Partners with the opportunity to support ISDN customers in mapping-out a gradual IP migration path . The provision of a hybrid solution utilising ISDN and SIP trunks not only provides the reassurance of a managed migration but also a business continuity alternative.

Geoff Wilson added: This is a big opportunity for the channel to broaden their portfolio and develop longer term propositions. Well provide real support to our Channel Partners in embracing IP and next generation services, enabling them to act now, before others steal the lead.
