(Times of Oman Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) OCERT hosts third annual cybersecurity summitMuscat: Under the patronage of Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible of Foreign Affairs, the 3rd Annual Regional Cybersecurity Summit, gets underway Sunday. The Summit, organised by Oman's (CERT), on behalf of the Information Technology Authority (ITA), and in cooperation with ITU-IMPACT and Naseba, is expected to attract key government officials, CEOs and other experts in the areas of information security from countries around the world.  Continuing over the next couple of days, from the 20-22 April 2014, at the Al Bustan Palace – a Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Muscat, the Summit aims to facilitate knowledge sharing between the public sector, private sector and academia, highlighting how organisations in the region can effectively safeguard their networks against the threat of cyber attacks. Comprised of two parts, there will be a 2-day conference on the 20-21 April and a series of three workshops, running concurrently from 20-22 April.  Following on the successes of the first two Summits, in which both achieved tremendous success and greatly enriched the discussion and exchange of experiences, this 3rd edition of the Summit has attracted 28 speakers from around the world to participate in upcoming discussions. Alongside the Summit, there will be an exhibition by a number of information security companies who will be on hand to represent their products and services to the local market.Fourth Infra Oman 2014 to kick off in OctoberMuscat: Activities of 4th Infra Oman 2014 will kick-off at Oman International Exhibition Centre (OIEC) on October 20, 2014. The three-day event will be organised by Al Nimr Expo. Salim bin Omar al-Hashmi, CEO of Al Nimr Expo said that the event will highlight the requirements of construction and infrastructure projects, such as roads, airports development, railways and ports.  In a statement to Oman News Agency, al-Hashmi pointed out that the event is a direct gateway to the opportunities in this sector as it will enable the companies to play a prominent role in the country's development. He added that the event will bring together all leading companies in the industry, ministry officials, CEOs and other senior managers, pointing out that Infra Oman will serve as an ideal platform for networking with key decision makers and expanding business contacts.Forum to focus on laws on selling, buying scrap metalMuscat: A seminar on 'Laws of Selling and Buying Scrap Metal in the Sultanate', will be held at Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) on April 30. The seminar will discuss the ministerial decisions issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources.  The seminar will include a presentation on vandalism and tampering in some power plants, in addition to reviewing two decisions in this regard through legal reading by law firms in the Sultanate. The seminar comes in support of the national campaign to maintain services launched last January under the theme "Our Oman is a Responsibility, Let Us Preserve It".  The seminar is designed to explain the laws issued for businessmen and what laws that should be observed by dealers of scrap metal selling and buying, specially iron and copper. The seminar is part of the implementation of the operational framework for the regulation of the selling and buying of scrap metal, which is the strategy adopted by the Directorate General of Criminal Inquiries and Investigations at the end of December 2011.  The seminar contains two parts: the first is about the procedural aspect that is implemented by the relevant government agencies and the second is concerned with awareness during which several workshops will be organized in the governorates of the Sultanate.Excellence in e-Services meet to be held on MondayMuscat: Activities of a seminar on "Excellence in e-Services" will begin at Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa on Monday under the patronage of Talal bin Sulaiman al-Rahbi, Assistant Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Planning (SCP). The three-day seminar, which will be organised by the Information Technology Authority, aims at highlighting the Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in e-Services in terms of mechanisms of registration, evaluation and the new categories that will be included in the 4th edition of the award.  The seminar will include a number of workshops with participation of international experts and lecturers. The seminar also seeks to urge the governmental and private institutions to improve their e-services in a bid to active the state's approach to shift into the IT-based economy.Central Bank of Oman issues tenders worth OMR245m        Muscat: Certificates of deposit tender was held at the Central Bank of Oman (CBO) this week. The total amount allotted for issue No. 863 was OMR245 million. A bulletin issued by the CBO stated that the average interest rate of these certificates was 0.13 per cent while the maximum accepted interest rate was 0.13 per cent.  The tenor of these certificates is 28 days, so their maturity date is on May 14. The certificates of deposit issued to licensed banks by the CBO as a monetary policy instrument aimed at absorbing excess liquidity at the banking sector in particular and maintaining stability of the interest rate and the money market in general. The Repo rate during April 16 till 22 is one per cent.
