Ohio Academy of Family Physicians Endorses 'Yes on Issue 2'

The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians endorsed the Yes on Issue 2 campaign today that will lower drug prices for 4 million Ohioans, including 164,000 children, and save taxpayers $400 million a year.

"I am passionate about helping my patients to be as healthy as they can be. Issue 2 will make medicines more affordable for my patients. It is simple. The cost of medicine will be reduced. This is a clear win for Ohioans. That is why I am voting yes for Issue 2," said Ohio Academy of Family Physicians President-elect Dr. Stan Anderson, M.D., Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

In their endorsement, the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians stated: "Multiple times every day family physicians encounter patients who are unable to afford the prescription medications needed to restore or maintain their health. Family physicians, being on the front lines of patient care, hear the horror stories about single pills that cost hundreds of dollars. The high cost of prescriptions is a critical issue for our patients, and therefore, for us."

"…we know something must be done so that Ohioans can afford and have access to needed medications. By supporting this issue, we hope to send a message to legislators - the exorbitant cost of medications and the negative impact those costs have on patients must be addressed," the endorsement continued.

The Ohio Academy of Family Physicians reprsents more than 4,900 practicing family physicians, family medicine residents and medical students. The OAFP is one of the largest, most active chapters of the American Academy of Family Physicians with a mission to advocate and advance family medicine.

"We thank the more than 4,900 dedicated doctors, residents and medical students of the Ohio Academy of Family Physicians for their support and for being on the front lines, dealing with patients. The professionals who families trust the most -their family physicians - have endorsed Issue 2. They see the pain and suffering and know their patients too often cannot afford the out-of-control prices charged by greedy drug companies and their CEOs. A yes vote on Issue 2 will lower drug costs and help their patients," said Dennis Willard, spokesperson for the Yes on Issue 2 campaign.

The Yes on Issue 2 campaign is a broad-based, bi-partisan coalition. More than 200,000 Ohio voters signed petitions to put an amendment on the ballot in November that will lower drug prices for over 4 million Ohioans, including 164,000 children, save taxpayers $400 million annually, reduce healthcare costs for everyone and teach greedy drug companies and their CEOs a lesson.
