NYCM Insurance Celebrates 115 Years of Service

NYCM Insurance today celebrates 115 years of continual insurance service to the people of New York State. Founded in 1899 by a group of 27 Edmeston-area businessmen to write fire and lightning insurance in Otsego, Chenango and Madison counties, the company today serves more than 476,000 policyholders for automobile, homeowner, mobile home, umbrella and commercial insurance.

Founder and Secretary Van Ness D. Robinson and his wife Grace, who worked as a part-time clerk, were the first employees of the company, whose offices were located in the center of Edmeston, in the Opera House Building. In 1902 Eva Pope was hired as a full-time clerk and began her 37-year career with the company. NYCM is still headquartered in Edmeston and today also has branch offices in Sherburne, Amsterdam and Buffalo New York. The company remains privately owned, employs 825 professionals and is represented by more than 1,100 idependent agents across the state.
