Nutrition Science Initiative Appoints Stacie Spector as VP of Strategy and External Relations


Aug 12, 2013 (Close-Up Media via COMTEX) -- The Nutrition Science Initiative (NuSI) announced the appointment of Stacie Spector as the Vice President of Strategy and External Relations as of June 10.

NuSI is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization with the mission of reducing the individual, social and economic burden of obesity and its related chronic disease by enhancing the quality of science in nutrition and obesity research.

"Stacie's arrival marks another bold step in NuSI's growth. Her expertise and strategic vision will allow NuSI to launch the incredible initiatives and programs that have been in development for months. Under Stacie's guidance NuSI will be solidifying strategic partnerships with the nation's most influential organizations and advocacy groups and offering the public various opportunities to connect with the remarkable groundbreaking science NuSI is funding," said Peter Attia, President, NuSI.



According to the organization, Spector most recently served as Chief Communications Officer for the Salk Institute, helping launch the $300 million Campaign for Salk marked with an approach to sharing science with a broader audience. She brings a wealth of experience in strategic planning for national non-profits and campaigns, building coalitions, advocacy, and communications capacities in the political, academic, research and business sector. In 2004 she was recruited as Associate Vice Chancellor for Communications at University of California San Diego overseeing communications, media relations, publications, special events, marketing, VIP tours, state government relations and advocacy. In addition to successfully concluding the $1 billion "Imagine What's Next" campaign.

Spector was appointed Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy Director of Communications for the White House during the Clinton presidency. Previously she served as Deputy Communications Director for President Clinton's re-election and directed all events for the 1997 Presidential Inauguration. She was recruited by Vice President Gore as his Deputy Campaign Manager to develop strategic and "rapid response" communications and worked on many other political and issue campaigns including as Deputy Campaign Manager for the re-election campaign of Senator Tom Harkin in 1990. She is a member of the San Diego Theatres board of directors and the national Humane Society communications advisory council.


As the VP of Strategy and External Relations, Spector will oversee strategic planning, advocacy outreach, coalition building, cultivating grassroots and "grasstops" supporters, message development and communications for NuSI.
