Nur Fazura: I wasn't drunk during club raid
(Malay Mail Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)KUALA LUMPUR: Actress Nur Fazura Sharifuddin has refuted media reports that she was drunk and behaved violently towards a cameraman during a recent club raid.
The 22-year-old, who was Most Promising Actress at the 17th Malaysia Film Festival (for her debut movie, Bicara Hati) said the report was baseless and had malicious intent.
"It's libellous to accuse me and my actress friend Sharifah Sofia Syed Hussein as being drunk and wildly pushing the TV camera," she said yesterday.
Fazura admitted to being hauled up by police at the Bar Blonde nightspot in Jalan Doraisamy together with Sharifah Sofia at 3.45am last Saturday.
She claimed that they both went there to meet a female friend who was to leave for Australia for further studies.
Both were held together with 60 other patrons for not being able to produce their identity cards.
"It was a normal procedure.
Once our urine was tested (for dadah) and found to be negative, we were released about 6.30am," said Nur Fazura.
The raid was conducted because the outlet, supposed to close at 3am, operated way past the hour.
Fazura, in a Press conference held at Aseana Cafe in KLCC, said she had lodged a report at the Taman Tun Dr Ismail police station to clarify the matter and clear her name.
"This kind of rumour is not only affecting me but my family too." She hoped those responsible for the report would apologise to her publicly.
Fazura, who was with Sharidah Sofia and her lawyer, Fakhrul Azman Abu Hasan, however, maintained that she is not taking legal action against her accusers.
Two years ago, Fazura was involved in a club brawl with a housewife and her case is pending in court.
"I know I am being victimised just because the incident will be heard in court soon.
I am just a normal person who happens to be an actress.
Please give me some space to lead my life," she said.
Fazura admitted that the first incident had affected her career and she has been labelled a "wild girl of the entertainment industry".
"I was about to pick up the pieces and go on with my life and this has to happen to me again." On the career front, Fazura said she will be acting in the Gol And Gincu TV series, hosting MTV Asia and doing a play soon.
Besides Bicara Hati, the Pahang born lass has also acted in Qais And Laila, and Gol And Gincu.
