Nrocinu wins rock band contest

(New Straits Times Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) KUALA LUMPUR: Wildcard entry Nrocinu beat its rivals to emerge champion in "Rock Unite", a rock band reality show aired on ntv7 last night. Comprising Kamarul Ariffin Borhan Nordin on vocals, Ahmad Shah Ziri Mohamed on guitar, bassist Mohd Safizra Abd Rahim and Mohd Ghazal Hairder, the group was eliminated in the semi-final.

It won a recording contract with Rock Unite Inc Sdn Bhd and RM100,000.

The other finalists, Duke and The Big Band, didn't go home empty-handed as they were also offered recording deals.

The final was held on Saturday with three bands battling it out in front of a crowd consisting mainly of rockers. The results show, based 100 per cent on SMS votes, was held yesterday.

Both shows, held at Queen's Park, Cheras, were hosted by Aishah Sinclair and Nazril Mohd Idrus. Nrocinu garnered 35 per cent of the SMS votes compared with 33 per cent for Duke and 32 per cent for The Big Band.

During the final on Saturday, Nrocinu got the crowd jumping and singing to its strong rendition of Fikirkan Boleh and its own composition, Pengganas.
