Northwestel Launches 11th Directory Recycling Program in Yukon and Northern British Columbia

Release date- 16042012 - For the 11th year, students across the Yukon and Northern BC will work together with Northwestel to recycle telephone directories.
Students raise money for their schools by collecting out-dated Northwestel directories to qualify for cash awards.
'With over 650 employees living in northern communities, Northwestel is part of the North. We want to take care of our Northern communities and our youth and this program is an excellent way to do it' said Paul Flaherty, President & CEO of Northwestel.
The program commences May 1st. Students will collect directories until May 29th. Northwestel will then ship directories south for recycling. Schools can earn up to $750.00 based on the number of directories collected per student.
In 2011, students collected 10,215 directories and earned $18,100.00 in cash awards. The cash awards were used to enhance a variety of school programs and served as an education tool for students. Students learn the value of our environment and the shared responsibility to reduce, reuse and recycle.
This program also contributes to Northwestel's commitment to meeting its corporate responsibility to reduce, reuse and recycle.
