Northlands Rescue Mission director resigns after 13 years [Grand Forks Herald]

(Grand Forks Herald (ND) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Oct. 23--The executive director of the Northlands Rescue Mission in downtown Grand Forks is resigning after more than a decade in the position.

Dave Sena became the Christian homeless shelter's executive director in 2001, shortly after beginning work there as a chaplain in 1999.

Sena said Wednesday he is leaving the position for personal reasons, among them to be closer to his wife's family in Winnipeg.

"We've been away from family ... so we felt this would be a time to make a shift," he said.

He said one of his accomplishments as executive director was the mission "just surviving." During his 15 years with the mission, Sena said he has witnessed the number of residents dwindle to around 30 and peak at around 130.

According to the mission's website, Sena will step down from his post in the "next several weeks," but will continue to help with fundraising efforts on a temporary basis. Sena said during his time as executive director, he also doubled as a fundraiser, establishing relationships with donors.

Sena also plans on working part-time as an online consultant with a company called Funding Logic, which helps not-for-profits attract and retain donors.

"While we're saddened to see Dave leave, Dave has done a tremendous job with his staff and the efforts he has undertaken," board chair Nancy Andrews said Wednesday. "We feel the board will continue with that momentum and moving the mission forward." Andrews said the mission has been working with the Chandler Group, an executive search firm out of the Minneapolis area, during the past few weeks to locate a new director.

She said currently there are four "promising" finalists for the position.

"We are hoping to be able to name a successor within the next couple weeks," she said.
