Nortel Dominates the North American Softswitch Market With 59 Percent
Share and in EMEA with 29 Percent Share
TORONTO -- (MARKET WIRE) -- 06/08/09 -- Recently published reports
from Dell'Oro Group and Infonetics Research continue to rank
Nortel(1) (TSX: NT)(OTCBB: NRTLQ) as the worldwide leader with the
largest revenues in the carrier softswitch market for the first
quarter of 2009.
Nortel's vision and execution in the carrier softswitch market
continues to pay off. According to Dell'Oro Group, Nortel has ranked
#1 worldwide based on softswitch revenue for the past seven years. In
Dell'Oro Group's recently published Carrier IP Telephony report 1Q
2009, Nortel maintained its global leadership position for
softswitches with 20.3 percent global market share.
According to Infonetics Research's recent report, Service Provider
VoIP Equipment and Subscribers Q1 2009, Nortel maintained its
worldwide revenue leadership position in softswitches and is the
global leader in VoIP overall. Infonetics also found that Nortel
continued its leading position based on revenue in the softswitch
market in both North America and EMEA, with 59.1 percent in North
America and 29 percent in EMEA.
"Infonetics Research found that Nortel has maintained its revenue
market share lead in the worldwide softswitch market in the first
quarter of 2009," said Diane Myers, directing analyst for service
provider VoIP and IMS at Infonetics Research. "In North America,
Nortel operates from a position of strength as the leading incumbent
vendor with more than half of all softswitch sales."
"Nortel's track record and operational experience in delivering VoIP
is unparalleled, as underscored by these two industry reports," said
Samih Elhage, president, Carrier VoIP and Application Solutions,
Nortel. "Nortel has grabbed nearly 60 percent of North American
market share - that's roughly three times more than our closest
competition. We continue to win important new customers globally, and
we are investing in cutting edge innovation that will help our
customers speed delivery of new revenue generating voice and
multimedia applications to their subscribers."
Over the past few months, Nortel has secured several key customer
wins in the Carrier VoIP space, including Telekom Austria, Kabel
Baden-Wurttemberg, Hancock Telephone, ArkWest Communications, Venture
Communications Cooperative and Dakota Central Telecommunications. In
addition, Nortel has made a number of portfolio enhancements -
including the Media Gateway (MG) 3600 and the Revenue Assurance Voice
Configuration Audit Service.
Nortel has shipped more than 100 million carrier IP voice and
multimedia ports to over 320 carriers globally. In addition, Nortel
provides VoIP solutions to two thirds of IDC's worldwide listing of
top 20 carriers (by revenue).
