Nokia lowers fourth-quarter mobile phone outlook
STOCKHOLM, Nov 14, 2008 (Xinhua via COMTEX) --
Nokia says global demand for
mobile phones would be lower in the fourth quarter than previously
forecast because of the international economic slowdown, according
to reports Friday from Helsinki.
Nokia, the world's largest cell phone maker, estimated mobile
phone volumes in the fourth quarter would be approximately 330
million, lower than its previous forecast.
Volumes for the entire year would decrease to 1.24 billion, 20
million lower than Nokia's previous estimate.
"In the last few weeks, the global economic slowdown, combined
with unprecedented currency volatility, has resulted in a sharp
pull back in global consumer spending," Nokia said in a statement.
Nokia's market share would be at the same level or slightly up
in the fourth quarter, the cell phone maker added.
Nokia also estimated 2009 volumes will be lower than the 1.24
billion it is predicting this year.
