Nokia Asha Users to Get Software Updates

(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Users of Nokia's Asha range of phones who might be feeling unloved with all the focus presently turned on the Lumia range of smartphones, and the soon to be released Windows 8.1 operating system update, should also expect software updates for the Asha touch phones.

The rollout of updates that begun last month will be available for both the single and dual SIM handsets for the Asha 230, and the Asha 500 through to the Asha 503.

Among the improvements users should expect include an updated Fastlane which will relay notifications for a variety of social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook.

Additionally the Asha software update will also provide push notification capability for different applications and an upgraded camera experience that will now offer a panorama mode and voice-guided selfie feature - one of the selling points of the Asha range of handsets.

Resultant photos from the improved camera features will be automatically stored on Microsoft OneDrive with each user having 7GB of cloud storage to boot.

"We are focused on enhancing the user experience on all our devices. This software update will also include a power save mode for improved battery life, video stabilisation and parental control for the browser and Nokia Store access to add to the camera and Fastlane features updates," said King'ori Gitahi, head of product marketing for Nokia East Africa.

Gitahi added that Asha users will receive push notifications when the software update is ready, but can also manually check for the update through the settings phone update option on their handsets.
