No suspects known in stabbing
Feb 10, 2012 (Crossville Chronicle - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Crossville Police say they have little to go on after a Cumberland County man was found in the parking lot of a local nightspot suffering from a stab wound and injuries received in a fight.
Eric Donovan Harper, 35, W. Creston Rd., was admitted to Cumberland Medical Center's intensive care unit with a stab wound to the right side of his abdomen, according to Ptl. Jason Wilson's report.
Police were dispatched to the Branding Iron Bar on West Ave. at 10:16 p.m. Saturday on a report of a stabbing, but employees and patrons inside the bar were unaware of an incident.
Ptls. Thomas Burnett and Wilson searched the area and found a man sitting in a 1996 Chevrolet pickup bleeding from the head. The man -- with blood on his face -- was talking on a cellphone. The officers then noticed the man was bleeding in the area of the abdomen and an ambulance was called to the scene.
While waiting for the ambulance, the officers attempted to interview the victim, "but he was uncooperative and continued to talk on his cellphone," Wilson wrote.
Sgt. Chad Withrow arrived on the scene and started photographing the pickup and found a bloodied knife in the floorboard of the pickup. The truck was towed to the city impound lot for processing.
While police were conducting their investigation, the victim's parents arrived and told police they had received two telephone calls from their son. In one call, the son reported around 9:30 p.m. that he had been stabbed. In a second call, the victim's father said he could not understand what his son was stating.
Witnesses told police that Harper was to meet a woman for an evening out that included supper and bowling, and that the woman may have had a boyfriend who was responsible for the assault.
A review of a security video at the Branding Iron showed Harper arriving around 9:49 p.m. but never exiting the truck. The video also showed no one approaching the vehicle.
Maj. Mark Rosser and Det. Larry Hamilton also responded to the scene and an investigation is continuing.
