NILE VARSITY HOSTS INTERNATIONAL CONFAB ON ELECTRONICS


(Daily Trust (Nigeria) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) University lecturers from 20 countries across the world yesterday converged on Abuja for the 11th International Conference on Electronics, Computers and Computation (ICECO) 2014 being hosted by the Nigerian Turkish Nile University.



Speaking at the opening of the conference, the Vice Chancellor, Nigerian Turkish Nile University, Professor Huseyin Sert, said the conference will contribute to the technological needs of Nigeria.

He said academicians will meet after the conference and brainstorm on how to move the Nigerian education sector forward.


The vice chancellor said Nile University is the first institution that hosts the conference in Africa since its commencement in 2004.

Minister of Education, Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, who was represented by the Director Tertiary Institutions, Hajiya Hindatu Abdullahi charged the conference to come up with recommendations that will boost the quality of education in Nigeria.

He called on other institutions to emulate Nile University by hosting similar conferences in Nigeria.

Earlier, the Director General, National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Dr. Muhammad Sani Haruna said a survey conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics in 2011 had shown that over 95 per cent of Nigerian populations have no access to personal computer and internet.

Haruna said Nigeria needs to address the dearth of local participation in the ICT sector to enable the country meet up with its ICT needs.
