New SHA Web site designed to keep public informed
CUMBERLAND, Jul 02, 2009 (Cumberland Times News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
The Maryland State Highway Administration's new Web site is designed to provide better access to projects, programs and traffic information.
Located at www.marylandroads.com www.marylandroads.com , the site has a bright new look, with more tools to help keep the public informed and connected to traffic information, innovations in highway safety, environmental initiatives and construction projects.
"Keeping our customers informed is key to our mission and this updated site will help to accomplish our goal," said SHA Administrator Neil Pedersen. "SHA is committed to opening a dialogue with customers -- sharing information to enhance service, mobility and safety on Maryland's highways."
The new site includes bookmarks with links to Myspace, Facebook and Twitter. It continues direct links to the Coordinated Highways Action Response Team, SHA's traffic control and monitoring center, and project updates. Users can order maps, learn how to drive a roundabout, view videos on topics such as work zone safety and give feedback on the site's usefulness.
Changes start on the home page with the design and layout, which now feature prominent tabs across the top, guiding users to specific categories: Business Center, Projects and Studies, Commuter and Travel, Safety Programs, and the Environment and Community. Moving the cursor across the topics gives an index of what's included. Just below the tabs are the news of the day, including hot topics and breaking news stories. Coming soon is SHA-TV, a video chronicle of the month's top stories. Although the site is officially launched, it is a work in progress, so more changes are expected in the weeks ahead. Comment on the new site can be provided to communications@sha. state.md.us.
