A new scandal looks set to strike Indian cricket

(Gulf News Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Dubai: Another scandal looks set to strike Indian cricket. Kiran More, the chairman of India's selection committee, is alleged to have been involved in a business arrangement with team coach Greg Chappell.

According to a report in an Indian newspaper, More, who runs a cricket academy in Vadodara, has sent players to the Australian International Sports Academy (AISA), a private firm that conducts training camps.

Chappell and Ian Fraizer, the bio-mechanist of the Indian team, are partners of AISA. They conduct a 14-day package entitled 'The Chappell Way' which costs Rs90,000 (Dhs 8,000 approx) per player.

Several members of the BCCI feel that More has misused his position as chief selector. A senior board official has even stated that More's business links will be discussed in the oncoming BCCI working committee meeting on April 9 in Mumbai.

The official also pointed out that, "More has been too friendly with the members of the Indian cricket team.

"The selection committee is a sacred body and a chairman of this committee should not be overfriendly with the players. It is also evident that he is too close to Chappell," he said.

When Gulf News contacted a BCCI source in India, he said: "This is a serious matter and it can result in the sacking of the coach and the selector."

Incidentally, More, who flew into Margao for the third One-dayer, was turned away from the team hotel. The hotel authorities informed More that a room had not been booked for him in the team hotel.

One wonders, is the BCCI trying to keep him away from the players?
