Participants have been challenged by the ScratchyCAD team to use their new software to address a problem in their lives and design a simple solution.  "The strength and power of 3D design can truly be felt when one applies this technology to their personal life to help to solve real issues.  Equipment like a 3D printer can bring these designs to life quickly and inexpensively" - Sam Weatherly, Co-Founder.  The Grand Prize will include a 3D printer, ScratchyCAD t-shirts, and a software license. Details can be found on www.scratchycad.com

The ScratchyCAD team has been using their software i a series of pilot workshops over the last several months.  During that time they gathered information from various teachers through personal development training, as well as students through hands on instruction with learners as young as five to high school aged teens.  Their most recent workshop tasked a group of 12-13 year old students to 3D model pyramids.  What the ScratchyCAD team found was not only did the students learn the basics of geometry and three dimensional coordinates, but by having the freedom to design the pyramid their way, the students engaged deeper by researching how the pyramids were made, what materials were used, and even how cultural differences could have influenced the shape and function of the space.

"They are not only learning what we ask them to learn, they forge their own learning path. We only set the goals and spark the interest, the students do the rest.  We need our new generations to actively learn, seek answers, and create solutions, no matter how radical they sound" - Patrick Rogers Education Director for ScratchyCAD.

ScratchyCAD will release a set of courses focused on entry level learners as part of their Kickstarter campaign while building to expand their training library to advanced applications.  Each of these courses will highlight different applications of ScratchyCAD, such as parametric modeling for 3D printing, video game design, interactive website development, and virtual reality.  Educators can select STEM packages to include training manuals, reference materials, and pre and post application assessments, making ScratchyCAD turn key for use in the classroom.
