New park inaugurated at Kandahar airport


KANDAHAR CITY, May 07, 2009 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) -- A newly constructed park in the premises of Kandahar International Airport was inaugurated on Tuesday after its completion in three months with support from the Afghan United Bank.



Transport and Aviation Minister Hamidullah Faroqi, Canadian Ambassador to Afghanistan Ron Hoffman, governor of Kandahar province Turyalai Veesa and some members of the parliament were among the participates of the opening ceremony of the park, an official said.

Director Afghan United Bank, Haji Mohammad, told Pajhwok Afghan News the park was completed on a cost of 80000 USD and it took three months to complete.


"The park will add to the beauty of the airport and will provide time passing opportunity to the passengers," Mohammad said.

He also promised construction of the Dand Square in the southern city of Kandahar.

Speaking at the park opening ceremony, the transport and aviation minister Hamidullah thanked the Afghan United Bank for its support in building the park and added that the private sector will be encouraged and motivated for such reconstruction projects.

Faroqi said they will build the terminal of Kandahar airport on modern footing.

Faroqi said his visit to Kandahar was aimed at analyzing the problems and needs of the Kandahar international airport with the help of his technical advisor.

Kandahar governor Turyalai Veesa said the national traders had promised contribution in modernization of the city and building parks and other recreation spots.

He urged the aviation minister for providing more facilities to the passengers and visitors of the airport.

"Security situation of Kandahar province is improving and a 50-member delegation comprising officials of three ministries has visited the province to analyze the security situation here," he informed.
