New jobs available in Yuma

Nov 04, 2009 (The Sun - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Looking for a job? Between two businesses, there are about 200 of them available in the Yuma area.

NCO Group is looking to hire about 100 new customer representatives for its call center as business picks up, said Elaine Wyant, officer manager.

And Frank Ruiz will start taking applications this week for 100 positions he hopes to fill for the restaurant and nightclub he hopes to open by mid-December in downtown Yuma in the former Kress building.

Ruiz is having a job fair from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the area in front of the Kress building at 284 S. Main St. Applications will be taken at that time with interviews to follow. Experience would be helpful and job seekers are encouraged to bring resumes.

Jobs run the gamut to staff the DaBoyz Italian Cuisine that will be located on the first floor, special events center and rhythm and blues nightclub on the third floor and the rooftop lounge. Among the positions available are cooks, kitchen help, servers, hostesses, bartenders, cocktail waitresses, security and maintenance.

Meanwhile, NCO Group has been in "a high hiring mode," said Wyant.

She said that the call center has hired about 230 people since August and is looking for an additional 100 customer service representatives during November. It currently has a work force of 450.

The new people are being sought to handle incoming calls from customers of an existing client that is giving NCO Group more business, Wyant said.

Once they complete training, the new representatives will take calls from the client's customers and provide technical support and other assistance, Wyant said.

"We're looking for people who are able to multitask, have good computer and communication skills and can handle being on the computer and take calls for eight hours a day," she said. And, she added, "they enjoy helping other people." People can apply online at www.ncogroup.com/careers or in person at the center, 1801 W. 32nd St. For more information and assistance in applying, they can call 726-0539. Job seekers also can apply at Yuma Private Industry Council's One Stop Career Center in Yuma at 3834 W. 16th St. and in Somerton at 201 N. Bingham, Suite 19.
