New head sommelier for The Atlantic Hotel [Kuwait News Agency]

(Kuwait News Agency Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) The Atlantic Hotel has appointed acclaimed wine expert Richard Burton as its new head sommelier.

Richard takes up the role following his relocation to Jersey from the historic and award-winning Midsummer House restaurant in Cambridge, holder of two Michelin stars and 5 AA rosettes.

It was whilst working at the Relais & Châteaux property The Inn at Little Washington in the US at the very beginning of his career that Richard began to develop his interest in fine wine. From there he went on to work at the renowned restaurant, The Crab at Chieveley in Berkshire and then on to Midsummer House.

The hotel's owner and managing director Patrick Burke said "We are delighted to welcome Richard to Jersey and to The Atlantic Hotel. Richard comes to us having worked at a number of prestigious establishments and brings with him a deep knowledge of the world of wine. He is a great addition to an already strong team." Richard Burton said "I am looking forward to working alongside executive head chef Mark Jordan and the team at The Atlantic Hotel and am excited about recommending some wonderful wine pairings for the excellent local fish and shellfish on the menu at Ocean Restaurant." He went on to say, "It is clear that Jersey is a very special place and The Atlantic Hotel is an exceptional establishment with a fantastic reputation. I am delighted to be joining such a great group of like-minded people, all of whom are dedicated to maintaining the hotel's high standards." Richard is passionate about travelling and enjoys visiting the world's famous wine regions. He is a particular fan of the elegance and finesse of the wines of the Burgundy region of France and along with travel, outside of work his interests include dance and golf.
