(News-Sentinel (Fort Wayne, IN) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) April 10--Allrecipes.com has upgraded its Dinner Spinner smartphone app for iOS and Android phones with a Grocery Scanner feature that allows you to scan grocery product barcodes to find recipes using that item.
The app also can be used to add items to your shopping list or to create a "virtual pantry" listing what cooking ingredients you have on hand at home.
The new feature is available for both the Dinner Spinner and Dinner Spinner Pro apps, a news release said.
Here are a few of the ways Allrecipes.com ( www.allrecipes.com) suggests using the app, the news release said:
-- You are grocery shopping and see an amazing deal on a certain item. Use your phone to scan the product's barcode, and then use the Dinner Spinner app to find recipes using the item.
-- When you are getting the milk, eggs or other item out of the refrigerator or pantry, you notice it is nearly gone. You can scan the product barcode to add it to your electronic shopping list.
-- Scan the barcode of groceries you have purchased to keep track of what you have on hand. The next time you are at the store, you can check your scan history to make sure you don't buy an item you already have.
Along with the upgrade, Allrecipes.com made the Shopping List feature available on the free version of the app, the news release said. It previously was available only on the Dinner Spinner Pro app.
You can view a video demonstration of the new app at www.youtube.com/ watch?v=GwzS1LQtjUU. More information and downloads also are available at the Apple App Store, Amazon Appstore or the Android Marketplace Google Play.
