Nevada Department of Transportation Enhances Emergency Response Capabilities With Rolta OnPoint™

ATLANTA, November 19, 2015 /PRNewswire/ --

The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) selected Rolta OnPoint™ to enhance its response and recovery capabilities during an emergency or disaster. The solution enables NDOT to easily consolidate and publish in real time road conditions and damage assessments to better serve citizens.

NDOT, as is the case with most Departments of Transportation, needed an effective way to provide real-time digital updates on road closures during emergency situations. While Nevada's 511 system provides road closure information online or by phone to the public information, NDOT's mapping system is used as a tool for its staff to manage assets.

Rolta OnPoint displays maps showing areas needing attention and helps prioritize deployment of resources. The system delivers up-to-the-minute information on the status of temporary and long-term highway repairs to law enforcement and fire departments for increased situational awareness.

NDOT was able to dramatically improve information flow internally and with public safety partners. Rolta OnPoint, an innovative solution that enables the rapid publishing of location-based information, operates in both the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) environment and in the field. It supports NDOT's existing investments in Esri technologies and ArcGIS Online.

Rolta OnPoint™ solution enables DOTs to search for and integrate information residing in existing, dsconnected technology solutions and visualize it on maps and dashboards. This commercial, off-the-shelf solution has been implemented by more than 100 organizations in more than 10 countries around the world. Its built-in capabilities enable DOTs to rapidly realize benefits.

"Just one week after Rolta completed this project, we had two significant, simultaneous events," said Christopher Joncas, NDOT Emergency Operations Manager. "On October 18, 2015 heavy rains caused severe flooding in southern Nevada near Beatty. At the same time, there was a hazardous fire at the US Ecology plant. We had to shut down 140 miles of US-95 from Tonopah to Armargosa Valley. Rolta's solution was used at the State Emergency Operations Center (SEOC) and by Law Enforcement to quickly and easily see road closures and re-routing of traffic. It was very well received by all involved, giving us another opportunity to advance our continued coordination with our public safety partners."

"We have worked with numerous transportation agencies to help them fulfill their responsibilities to citizens by delivering up-to-date information during times of emergency, but also during frustrating commute times," said Satinath Sarkar, EVP of Intellectual Property Solutions for Rolta. "Rolta OnPoint not only delivers map-based road condition reports, its analytics capabilities allow administrators to quickly identify issues which must be addressed before they become critical."
