Nepal journalists demand free Press under new Constitution

Kathmandu, Nov 11, 2008 (Asia Pulse Data Source via COMTEX) --
The journalist fraternity in Nepal has demanded guarantee for their rights and freedom of Press under the new constitution of the country.

The Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ) today submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal in this regard.

A delegation led by FNJ president Dharmendra Jha today met with the Prime Minister at his official residence at Baluwatar.



The delegates have also asked the Prime Minister to provide compensation to the kins of those journalists who were killed during decade long insurgency and other movements and to provide help those who sustained injured on such occasions.

They also urged the premier to immediately start the process of drafting the constitution by forging cooperation and collaboration among different political parties.



"The Prime Minister has assured to provide financial support for the journalists who were been victims of conflict," member from the delegation said.
