RDATE:31072008
London 0- NEC Computers Ltd, a subsidiary of NEC Corp., today announced
the launch of its first tape library, the NEC T16A2. The automated
solution simplifies the process of the backing up of data on the server
and helps businesses to upgrade their storage capacity at a lower cost,
regardless of the OS environment.
The NEC T16A2 is designed to meets the needs of SME's, with key
features including:
--A compact form factor design: with a native capacity of up to 13TB
with 16 cartridges in a 2U high density rack format
--High Performance: with support for LTO-3 and LTO-4 media
--Scalable: thanks to a double magazine design that allows management
of 8 cartridges per magazine
--Ease of use: an automated tape library storage unit with a user
friendly and intuitive administration screen and remote management via
web interface
High performing Solution for a more reliable and secure back up device
The availability of IT data is a vital element in business continuity,
and for this reason data security is a prime focus for NEC with this
product. For the majority of businesses it is essential to have access
to a managed back up device that offers both high performance and
security.
Benefits of the T16A2 include the use of an advanced bar code reader to
register the location of bands, allowing the important data to be saved
more efficiently. Additionally the 2U Rack format offers the customer
a large storage capacity within a reduced space.
The NEC T16A2 storage unit includes the latest tape technology and
supports the Ultrium LTO format, which offers high capacity, high
performance and increased security. Businesses can also choose between
the LTO-3 or LTO-4 band readers which allows one to double the storage
capacity whilst retaining the documents in the same way as LTO does.
Finally, the band readers are available with WORM (Write Once, Read
Many) technology to protect data against alterations and modifications.
Remote Management
The NEC T16A2 allows the remote-administration, configuration and
control of any function (e.g., the state of the system, diagnostics,
inventory and alarms). Its intuitive display screen also makes it very
easy to use and, additionally, its web based remote management allows
the efficient monitoring of storage systems without the need for manual
intervention. Should a problem arise the user can quickly receive a
diagnostic report based on the event log.
This function facilitates the integration of many major operating
systems such as Microsoft Windows and Linux. It is also compatible with
the principle backup saving software such as Symantec Backup Exec and
Brightstor ARCserve.
A Storage Extension Offer
Further complementing this new tape library, NEC offers completely
standardised storage sub-systems which can be easily and rapidly
integrated:
NAS solutions (Network Attached Storage) which reduces deployment time
and the need for additional resources. It consolidates all servers and
storage units, thus simplifying the management and administration of
data.
Sub-Systems supported by SAN (Storage Area Network) excel in the
centralisation of data, whilst simplifying administration.
Price and Availability
The NEC T16A2 library is available from GBP 3,499 (SCSI LTO3
(6.4-12.8TB)) or GBP 3,899 (SCSI LTO4 (12.8-25.6TB)), with pack
