NEC Launches PFTAP SDN Controller to Simplify and Reduce the Cost of Network Monitoring

IRVING, Texas --(Business Wire)--

NEC Corporation of America (NEC (News - Alert)), a leading technology integrator of advanced IT, networking and communications solutions, today announced the availability of its new PF6800 TAP SDN appliance, which provides automated aggregation of telephony packet flows on a network using an Open Network fabric. The new controller is included in the recently announced version 6 release of NEC's award-winning ProgrammableFlow® Software-defined Networking Suite.

"We've found that network visibility is becoming a major priority for network operators, and scaling out the monitoring equipment is difficult and expensive," said Don Clark, director, business development, NEC Corporation of America.

NEC's PF6800 TAP SDN-based controller addresses those concerns by employing an Open Network fabric to provide comprehensive flow aggregation and orchestration; scalable filtration; and enhanced network traffic visibility. Benefits of using PF6800 TAP include:

  • Redirecting automated aggregation of packet flows to security and analysis tools
  • Easily add traffic filters via user interface, enabling selected traffic to be redirected to any port for further analysis
  • Improved visibility of network flows on logical and physical networks to easily identify TAP source data
  • Reducing the load on packet brokers, intrusion detection systems and other tools, through the use of OpenFlow switches for aggregation and filtration

The PF6800 TAP appliance is available now, starting at a list price of $36,000 for the appliance. NEC wll be demonstrating the new TAP appliance at the fall Open Networking User Group (ONUG) meeting Oct. 28-29.

About ProgrammableFlow Networking Suite

Initially launched in 2011, the ProgrammableFlow Networking Suite was the first commercially available SDN solution to leverage the OpenFlow protocol, enabling complete network virtualization, allowing customers to easily deploy, control, monitor, and manage multi-tenant network infrastructure. Now with version 6, customers can unify and control remote networks, all from a central location, to deliver simplified data center management, improved end-user access to applications, enhanced collaboration, and dramatically increase efficiency of IT resource utilization. Endorsed by customers, the ProgrammableFlow Networking Suite provides the first comprehensive suite that includes both physical and virtual switches as well as an SDN controller and applications. Ideally suited for corporate and service provider data centers, the ProgrammableFlow Controller PF6800 controller provides a cost-effective, high-performance, highly scalable SDN platform.
