NEC and KDDI Announce Collaboration on Wireless LAN-Compatible ES02SA au Mobile Phone, Providing Mobile Solutions to Enterprise

(Comtex Business Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Tokyo, Japan, Sep 06, 2006 (JCN Newswire via COMTEX) --NEC and KDDI are pleased to announce their collaboration on a mobile solution targeted at corporations that utilizes KDDI's wireless LAN-compatible au phone E02SA, in a move to revolutionize the way office work is done. NEC will release the mobile solution in December of this year.

In order to reduce transmission and maintenance fees of company networks, and to improve business processes and intellectual productivity, companies are beginning to proactively examine the feasibility of introducing broadband and mobile offices. An environment that provides seamless communication between a single-terminal public network (such as the mobile phone network) and an intra-office network (such as the company LAN) is highly desirable, especially in sections that frequently work outside the office, such as sales.

KDDI's first wireless LAN-compatible au mobile phone, the E02SA, was targeted at corporations and launched in July of this year. The E02SA can be used as a wireless LAN-compatible VoIP phone inside the office, and as an au mobile phone outside the office, making it possible to construct an efficient company network using just one terminal. Furthermore, KDDI's BREW(R) application platform for mobile phones allows companies to customize applications to meet their needs. The E02SA is thus not merely a phone but an all-in-one communication tool that contributes to business efficiency.

The main products in the UNIVERGE Solution series, NEC's broadband and mobile office solution, are the SIP-compatible telephony server UNIVERGE SV7000 and the VoIP-compatible wireless LAN access point UNIVERGE WL Series. NEC has a proven track record of operating results in intra-office wireless LAN systems that utilize the UNIVERGE SV7000 and UNIVERGE WL Series, and accumulated construction know-how for radio zone design and security design in the introduction of voice terminals.

The addition of the E02SA to its lineup of terminals that connect to the UNIVERGE SV7000 and UNIVERGE WL Series will allow NEC to adapt to the diverse needs of companies and to provide a new communication tool that utilizes a sophisticated intra-office wireless LAN system.

As a part of their respective IT business strategies, KDDI and NEC will continue to jointly develop broadband and mobile solutions utilizing wireless LAN-compatible au mobile phones. In addition, both companies will examine the possibility of offering value-added services that will strengthen competitiveness and increase efficiency.

'OFFICE FREEDOM' refers to the wireless LAN internal-line solutions that utilize wireless LAN-compatible mobile phones. NEC is a recognized partner of OFFICE FREEDOM.

Memory space is an important factor when it comes to switching between multiple applications on a mobile phone. By effectively utilizing the phone's 'history' to start up and shut down applications, the BREW(R) platform suppresses memory space consumption while retaining the convenience of a personal computer.
