NASA Brings the International Space Station Experience to Emerald City


HOUSTON, May 19, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- NASA is traveling to the Seattle area May 22-25 to highlight and share the accomplishments, potential and opportunities for research onboard the International Space Station (ISS).

Astronaut Anne McClain, a Spokane, Washington, native and veteran astronaut Michael Barratt will share their perspectives on space research opportunities and the special vantage point over Earth that the orbital laboratory provides. Station scientist Pete Hasbrook and commercial cargo engineer Jason Smith also will participate in events alongside Center for the Advancement of Science in Space's (CASIS) Director o Commercial Innovation Cynthia Bouthot.



On Tuesday, May 23, representatives from NASA and CASIS will highlight the many commercial opportunities the space station provides for researchers and employees from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Starbucks, where the ISS Driven to Explore mobile exhibit will be at 2401 Utah S., Seattle, and will be available to the general public during that same timeframe. Afterward, Hasbrook and McClain will join Nerd Nite: Seattle at High Dive, 513 N. 36th St., Seattle, to discuss their personal experiences within the station program. The event is for guests 21 and older and runs from 6:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m.

On Wednesday, May 24, NASA and CASIS will meet with Microsoft representatives from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at 15255 N.E. 40th St., Redmond, Washington, to discuss the research platform the ISS National Laboratory allows. At 11a.m., astronaut Mike Barratt will share insights from his missions to the space station during a presentation.


On Thursday, May 25, Barratt, NASA and CASIS will be back at Microsoft from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. to discuss potential STEM education initiatives, as well as providing an opportunity for educator development.
