Nanotek to start Dayton, Ohio, nanotechnology research and development center

(Dayton Daily News (Ohio) (KRT) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Apr. 24--DAYTON -- Nanotek Instruments Inc. will open a nanotechnology research and development center, adding 77 jobs to its full-time staff, the city of Dayton announced Thursday, April 24.



The new center will be at 1240 McCook Ave., with the company planning to renovate 10,000 square feet of space and add 77 full-time positions to its existing staff of seven.

Dayton City Commission approved a $100,000 grant for the center. Nanotek Instruments focuses on research, development and commercialization of low-cost nano-materials. Nanotechnology involves creating new materials from microscopic bits of matter just a few atoms in size.



Nanotek was a tenant in the city's Entrepreneurs Center. The company has a portfolio of more than 80 pending or issued patents, the city said.

A representative of Nanotek could not be immediately reached.

Bor Jang, dean of Wright State University's College of Engineering and Computer Science, brought the company to Dayton from North Dakota in 2005. Jang was named dean of the college in May 2005.

Dayton's grant for the company consists of $75,000 from Montgomery County's Economic Development/Government Equity fund as well as $25,000 from the city's own development fund.
