Muslims Mark Eid Al-Fitr(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Thousands of Muslims around the country will today throng mosques for Eid al-Fitr prayers, marking the end of the Islamic Holy Month of Ramadhan. In Kigali, the largest gathering is expected at the Kigali Regional Stadium-Nyamirambo, where prayers are expected to be led by the head of the Islamic community in the country, Mufti Sheikh Ibrahim Kayitare. Later Muslims will enjoy meals together in family reunions. Similar celebrations will take place around the world. Eid-al-Fitr prayers mark the end of Ramadhan, a holy month on the calendar of Islam during which strict fasting is observed from sunrise to sunset. The Ministry of Public Service and Labour last evening announced that today is a public holiday. Meanwhile, a total of 50 underprivileged Muslim families in Nyarugenge central business district on Friday, benefited from a donation of Rwf1.5m from mobile telecom company, Airtel Rwanda. Speaking at the handover, Airtel Rwanda's Chief Financial officer, Tano Oware said: "The Airtel family is grateful to be part of this special month on the Islamic calendar. Ours is a small contribution and we hope that the beneficiary families will enjoy Idi-El-Fitr." The Imam of Nyarugenge District, Sheikh Issa Hagumimana, who received the contribution on behalf of the Nyarugenge Muslim community commended Airtel for the kind gesture. Copyright The New Times.
