Multimedia Release -- KFC's Festive Feast: A New Sweet Treat and the Original Recipe(R) Makes the Perfect Dinner for Hectic Families This Holiday Season

LOUISVILLE, Ky., Nov 28, 2012 (GlobeNewswire via COMTEX) -- KFC has a gift for busy families this holiday season -- a tasty meal, a sweet treat and a moment of peace during this hectic time of the year. First, the brand introduces the Festive Feast, an eight-piece meal accompanied by a dozen delicious chocolate chip cookies, which is sure to bring sweet relief to those needing a break from holiday chaos.

A multimedia version of this release that includes photos and video clips is available at //www.globenewswire.com/mpr/kfc/10013582.html "Between the planning, shopping and decorating, we know that sometimes it's hard to relax with the family and really enjoy the holidays," said Jason Marker, Chief Marketing Officer for KFC U.S. "With the introduction of the Festive Feast, families can put the hectic pace aside and sit down for a fresh, delicious meal, and top it off with a sweet treat." Available at participating KFC locations, the Festive Feast includes eight pieces of freshly prepared chicken, two home-style side favorites, four famous, flaky biscuits and a dozen chocolate chip cookies -- all for just $19.99.

KFC's chocolate chip cookies use fresh ingredients and are baked in store. And the brand known for its world famous secret recipe for fried chicken now has another proprietary formula to hide away in its vault: a unique recipe for the chocolate chip cookies sold in its stores.

When the chocolate chip cookie met its match -- Original Recipe(R)! Always keeping an eye on the hottest culinary trends, the chefs in the KFC test kitchen have taken note of a rush of new recipes featuring a combination of sweet and savory flavors. And as the keepers of both the Secret Recipe for the Colonel's fried chicken and a new, proprietary recipe for chocolate chip cookies, the KFC team started thinking about combining the two flavors. Might it be time to give America's favorite cookie recipe a "taste-lift" The KFC team struck up a cookie conversation with about 5.5 million of its closest friends -- also known as KFC Facebook fans -- and the concept of a limited edition, prototype Original Recipe cookie was well received.

Thousands of KFC's Facebook fans agreed that the savory taste of Original Recipe chicken and the sweet taste of chocolate chip cookies were meant to be together. Responses included: "Chocolate chip cookies and KFC, MMM, MMM, good!!" from Marianne U. and "Sweet and salty, yum," from Charlotte D. And that was enough validation to move forward with the "O.R.C. Recipe Project." Soon after, KFC chefs were testing a series of recipes to create a cookie that combined the two popular taste sensations. After many hours of baking, dozens of cookies and no shortage of feedback from willing taste test volunteers, the team landed on a final recipe.

"Move over bacon cupcakes! There's a new sweet and savory treat in town. Well, at least it's available in our hometown test kitchen," said Bob Das, KFC Corporate Chef. "The Original Recipe Cookie is a treat like no other and what makes it so fun is that it was our social media fans who inspired us to develop this prototype recipe." While the (very) limited-edition Original Recipe Cookies are not available in-store, KFC is asking fans to vote online at www.facebook.com/KFC about whether the unique dessert should be added to menus nationwide.
