MTN8 Back for 7th Edition


(AllAfrica Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) THE seventh edition of the MTN8, the most lucrative cup competition on the African football scene, continent, resumes on Friday.

Bidvest Wits and Bloemfontein Celtic will kick off proceedings at the Bidvest Stadium on Friday.

MTN, the mobile network operator, and the Premier Soccer League (PSL) expressed excitement ahead of the resumption of the competition tagged "Wafa Wafa." PSL CEO, Brand de Villiers, said the MTN8 had a special place in the heart of millions of football fans in this country.



"This makes this tournament not only important but also strategic for the participating clubs, the League and our sponsors MTN.

"We looking forward to some quality football and we urge fans to come in numbers to support their clubs," de Villiers said.


Larry Annetts, the Chief Marketing Officer at MTN SA, said MTN was excited to bring these once-in-a-lifetime experiences to football fans and its customers once again.

"The MTN8 has grown in leaps and bounds and continues to be a fan favourite.

"This tournament has become synonymous with the Last Fan Standing, where one fan scoops the ultimate football prize of a whopping R1m in cash plus a football experience that money can't buy," Annets said.

The other last Eight fixtures will pit Mamelodi Sundowns against Platinum Stars, Orlando Pirates vs SuperSport United as well as Kaizer Chiefs against Mpumalanga Black Aces.

The winner of the MTN 8 will bag R8 million while the seven other contestants reap R800 000 each.

Platinum Stars are the defending champions.
