Mr. Handyman Donates 4,600 Hours in Repair Services to Organizations in Need

ANN ARBOR, Mich. --(Business Wire)--

Each year during the week of Sept. 11, technicians from national home repair franchise Mr. Handyman perform maintenance and repair jobs, all without a collecting a single penny in labor costs. This year, the company provided nearly 800 hours of repair work, boosting the total hours donated to 4,600 since the program's inception six years ago.

Local Mr. Handyman franchise projects include fixing up volunteer fire department stations, helping out military veterans, and remodeling homes for women and children that were victims of domestic abuse.

Leading the largest service project this year was the owner of Mr. Handyman Northern Virginia - Arlington to Haymarket, Jo McCabe. As a U.S. Navy Veteran, McCabe rallied her team of technicians to donate more than 200 hours of service at the home of WWII veteran, William Martin. The group replaced the kitchen floor, partially remodeled a bathroom and epaired the front gutter in addition to several other interior and exterior maintenance projects.

This project is only one example of Mr. Handyman's national effort where technicians from coast to coast are encouraged to reach out to a local charity, organization, or individual in need to offer their services in fixing up living areas, kitchens, bathrooms or anything else that needs repair.

"Our brand is made up of local entrepreneurs who thrive in their communities, and there's no better time for our franchisees to give back than during this week," said J.B. Sassano, President of Mr. Handyman. "During this time, it's important to show the country what we're capable of - honoring the lives and memories of 9/11 heroes past and present."

The National Day of Service and Remembrance was established in 2009 as a way to encourage Americans to participate in service and remembrance activities on the anniversary of 9/11. This year, more than one million Americans are expected to serve in their communities in honor of 9/11, according to United We Serve, a national organization that supports the cause. The day is part of President Obama's request to renew America through volunteerism.
