Motorola introduces IP-BSC-DO EV-DO BSC platform

A new IP-BSC-DO, highly scalable EV-DO Base Site Controller (BSC)
platform has been introduced by communications solutions provider
Motorola (NYSE:MOT), intended to enable CDMA operators to upgrade the
DO broadband data capacity quickly and cost effectively.

The company said the IP BSC offers 12 times the site capacity and IP
data session capacity of the first generation DO BSC, while using less
floorspace and is due to be available for commercial shipment to
operators in quarter two 2008.

According to Motorola, the IP-BSC-DO offers increased capacity,
scalability, standards-based architecture and modular design and
combines EV-DO packet controller functions (PCF) with the operations
and maintenance controller in one Motorola platform for CDMA2000 EV-DO.
It features CDMA2000 EV-DO traffic and signalling control and routing
between a Radio Access Network (RAN) and the Packet Data Serving Node
(PDSN), operator management of the IP-BSC-DO and authentication of
users trying to access the EV-DO system.

Motorola claimed the new product offers a higher bandwidth platform
which supports current high speed applications and is suited to support
advanced data applications such as VoIP, video telephony and multimedia
push-to-X services. It uses custom applications software integrated
into ATCA hardware platform technology and reportedly reduces the
number of EV-DO base site controllers an operator needs to operate its
network.

This was the task that the Northern Lights Robotics Team was asked to accomplish this past year for the annual FIRST Competition. FIRST, is For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology. The competition brings teams from all over the country, who also build similar robots. The Northern Lights Team took 16th out of 54 teams this year, and today they were in Dakota Square Mall starting preparations for next year's competition. Members wanted to showcase what they built, but they were also hoping to gain some interest.
