Motorcycle production hits record high in Indonesia
(Asia In Focus Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)JAKARTA, Jan 20 Asia in Focus - Indonesia's production of motorcycles hit a new record of 5.1 million units in 2005 or a 31.2 per cent increase from the previous year when production was only 3.89 million units. The Indonesian Association of Motorcycle Industry (AISI), however, expressed pessimism that the country could maintain the trend this year under macro economic pressure.
* HONDA maintained a strong lead contributing 51.88 per cent of the total production, followed by YAMAHA with a contribution of 24.23 per cent and Suzuki 21.87 per cent.
* Other smaller brands are KAWASAKI, South Korean KANZEN, Taiwan's KYMCO and Italian PIAGGO respectively contributing 1.54 per cent, 0.38 per cent, 029 per cent and 0.01 per cent, production of of non AISI members such as Chinese brands was not included.
