Mother of slain man blames Rio police(Associated Press Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) — News reports say the mother of a young man whose death sparked clashes in a Rio de Janeiro slum blames police for her son's death. Maria de Fatima da Silva told the G1 Internet portal she believes police killed her son. Douglas Rafael da Silva Pereira's body was found Tuesday in the Pavao-Pavaozinho slum a few hundred yards (meters) from where Olympic swimming events will be held in 2016. The Wednesday report quotes Silva as saying police told her Pereira fell to his death. She said the autopsy shows the body has perforation wounds inconsistent with the police account. A spokeswoman for Rio's civil police decline to comment, saying an investigation is pending. Pereira's death triggered violent clashes late Tuesday.
