Telstra, Optus and Vodafone Hutchison attract more consumer complaints than do the "big four" banks. There was a 50 per cent jump in complaints to the Telecommunications Industry Ombudsman in 2008-09, and a 54 per cent surge the previous year. Allan Asher, of the Australian Communications Consumer Action Network, says telcos use a "confusopoly" model to deliberately make their products complicated and confusing.
